SOPwriter can only capture data when you manually start a recording session. It cannot collect data in the background or on tabs you are not actively interacting with.
What data we collect
SOPwriter captures the following data only during active recording sessions that you explicitly start:
- Screenshots - Images of your visible browser tab
- Click locations - Where you click on pages (not what you type)
- Page URLs - The web addresses you visit during recording
- Page titles - The titles of pages you visit
- Scroll events - When you scroll up or down
- Tab switches - When you switch between tabs
- Form field focus - Which input field you clicked into (NOT what you typed)
What we do NOT collect
- Keystrokes - We never log what you type, ever
- Passwords or form inputs - We never capture text entered into any field
- Data from inactive tabs - Only the tab you're actively using
- Data when not recording - The extension does nothing until you click "Start Recording"
- Browsing history - We don't access your history
- Personal information - No accounts, no emails, no tracking
- Background data - Cannot run or collect anything without your explicit action
Where data is stored
All captured data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage.
We do not transmit any data to external servers. The extension makes zero network requests.
Data retention
Recordings are stored locally until you delete them. We keep a maximum of 50 recordings to manage storage space. You can delete any recording at any time from the extension popup.
Your control
- You control when recording starts and stops
- A visible indicator shows whenever recording is active
- You can view and delete any recording at any time
- Uninstalling the extension removes all local data
Third-party services
If you choose to export SOPs to services like Notion or Google Docs, those exports are governed by those services' privacy policies. The extension itself makes no external network requests.
No analytics or tracking
We do not use any analytics services, tracking pixels, or third-party SDKs. There is no telemetry of any kind.
